Who is She Built This City, you ask?

This awesome nonprofit does so much to bring equity to the skilled trades. In industries that have historically been dominated by men, She Built This City seeks to level the playing field by breaking down barriers and building pathways to lucrative trades careers for youth, women and marginalized communities. 

She Built This City offers several programs to get the job done.

Adult Workforce Programs

These programs prepare learners for a lifelong career in construction. Pre-apprenticeships provide rudimentary and tool usage training, OSHA-10 and first-aid training, child supervision and more. Their paid apprenticeships take things further with above-average hourly pay, a full-time schedule and entrepreneurial training. The highly structured and carefully designed programs have developed a reputation for opening the door to more opportunities for these underserved communities. 

Youth Programs

These programs begin as early as age 7 and carry through high school. And the educational offerings run the gamut with everything from traditional construction skills to cutting-edge technologies. The ultimate aim? Showing kids the huge benefits of skilled trades careers and making it much easier for them to get started after high school. We saw this in action when they joined us for our 2023 Service Day event this year. Together we worked with Greensboro, NC middle school students to build and donate over 20 picnic tables to local community organizations.
